Children’s Ministry Programs

Fall/Winter, 2007/2008

Religious Formation:                                                                                                        

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (COGS)

-          Program serves children ages 3 and above

-          Children encounter God through developmentally appropriate presentations, centers, and prayer

-          Focus:  Scripture, Liturgy, and the Whole of Sacred History.

-          Montessori-based approach

-          Atrium-Setting

 

Class Schedule:    

 

Level I (age 3 to 6 years)                                  

-          Atrium time: 11:00 am – Sunday morning

-          Atrium time: 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Wednesday afternoon

Level II and III (age 6 to 9 years and age 9 and above)

             - Atrium time: 11:00 am – Sunday morning

 

All atrium students are encouraged to attend one of the following worship services:

-          Children’s Chapel

-          Sunday, 9:00 am, joining the Principal Eucharist at the Peace

-          Principal Eucharist – Sunday, 9:00 am – upper chapel

-          Contemporary Eucharist – Saturday, 6:00 pm – lower chapel

 

 

Worship:

Children’s Chapel   

-          Sunday, 9:00 am, joining the Principal Eucharist at the Peace

-          Exception:  3rd Sunday of the month – Youth Sunday

-          Catechist:  Chris Logan,  Interim Youth Minister

-          Teaching:  Presentation follows the Readings from the Lectionary

-          Music, prayers, interactive service of the Word

 

Nursery:

-          Sunday morning offering:

-          9:00 am to 10:30 am during Principal Eucharist

-          11:00 am to noon during Adult Christian Education

-          Lay Minister:  Deidre Witkowski

-          Volunteer Assistance provided

-          Age: Infants up to 3 years

-          Christian Story time, music, and related activities provided.


 

 

Christian Initiation/Early Communion/Reconciliation:

The age at which children are allowed to receive Holy Communion in our church can begin as the first act upon baptism.

-          If the parent consent lies with the “age of reason”, or about six or seven years-of-age, the child’s enrollment in the COGS Level II or III program (depending on their age) will prepare them for receiving the Eucharist.

-          COGS Level II or III students will have special preparation with a retreat for the Rite of Reconciliation

-          The Sacrament of Confession or Rite of Reconciliation is optional with parent support/consent.

 

Youth Sunday and Special Services:

-          Opportunities to Acolyte, Read, and Greet – All Ages

-          Acolyte Training Dates – to be posted

-          Youth Sunday – 3rd Sunday of the month

-          Youth Homily

-          Special Services – to be posted

 

Vacation Bible School :

Offered at a minimum one week per year

-          Last week of June

-          Theme-based

-          Program Offering

-          Early Childhood

-          Elementary

-          2007:  Son Force Kids

 

Youth Group: 

-          Jr. Youth Group - Meets the 2nd Friday evening of each month from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

-          Ages 6-12.

-          Focus for 2007:  Issues-Based and Outreach-Driven

-          1st quarter  - “Hunger, Poverty, Homelessness”

-          2nd quarter - “Caring for God’s Creation”

-          3rd quarter – “Youth-Driven Issues”

-          Co-Leaders:  Christopher Logan/Deidre Witkowski

-          Sr. Youth Group – Meets one Friday evening per month, times t.b.d.

-          Ages 13 and up.

-          Co-Leaders:  Deidre Witkowski/Christopher Logan

 

Other Opportunities to Exercise our Faith:

-          Outreach/Mission - Our Father’s Table, Food Pantry, Horizons for Homeless Children, etc.

-          Fundraising-Car Wash, Trinity Café

-          Youth Actors Guild – Epiphany Play, VBS, Other – All ages

-          Teen Helpers – COGS, VBS, Youth Group, Nursery
