This picture is of the Level II side of the room.
It contains the Unity Strip on the wall, the prayer table, and a row
of 6 book cases back to back that are used as a divider. We have
both the Unity strip and the Fettucia in the room, because we are
not able to easily unroll the Fettucia in a small space.
This shows the prayer
table in the Level II half of the room. The prayer table is also
where Children’s Chapel is presented during the Liturgy of the Word
each Sunday during atrium. There is a whiteboard where children can
sign up for reading, or processing (or both!) to the right of the
prayer table. Votive candles, forms for Prayers of the People, and a
basket for liturgically colored tablecloths are under the prayer
table. A basket for
prayer cards is to the right of the prayer table. Books of Common
Prayer, and the children’s Bibles are in the lower shelf of the
bookshelf.
The adjacent space is
the first part of the Level I side of the
atrium.
In it we have our altar,
tabernacle, and lectern. To the right of the altar are the chasubles
for the Level I liturgical colors. To the left of the altar are the
bookcases for the Level I geography, altar extensions, infancy
narratives, practical life, liturgical colors extensions, and the
Good Shepherd.
This view is from the
work and art area of the Level 1 section, looking all the way toward
the work and art area of the Level II section
This view is the exact
opposite. From the Level II work and art area you are looking all
the way across to the Level I area.
A close up view of our
prayer table, with bells, candle, crystal cross, Good Shepherd,
painted Cross and snuffer. The little white box, gotten at the
Christmas tree shop, is for spent matches
This is a direct look at
the altar. We brought the icon of the Angel Gabriel, graciously lent
to us by Father Michael, the day we presented the Annunciation. We
think he is a great awesome angel!
This is a close up of
our altar, with the sacristy basket below it. The control pictures
for the items are glued into the bottom of the
basket.
This is our beautiful
tabernacle, made for us by the son-in-law of one of our catechists.
The lectern was made to match. There is also an altar book stand on
the stand holding the tabernacle. There is (of course) a lock. On
the top is the sanctuary lamp. This tabernacle was so admired in the
congregation, that we commission a new tabernacle for the church
which looks exactly the same! Usually, the atrium is trying to mimic
the church. This was a wonderful example of the
reverse.
This is the Level I
geography material. On the top is the topographical map of
Israel, and the globe, painted
over with blue paint and glued sand. The puzzle map of
Israel, with controls and the
extensions are on the middle shelf. The altar pasting and tracing
packets on the bottom shelf.
This is the gesture
table. We recycled a second altar that was no longer in use for the
gesture table. The small booklets, and materials for creating
booklets, plus the materials for the cruets and the chalice, are
under the table.
One of our catechists
took on the job of making the Sculpey figures for the Infancy
Narratives. We used photo boxes for the environments. They are
easily labeled, and easily put away. This diorama is the
Adoration of the Shepherds.
Our Good Shepherd
material is the first thing you see when you come into the
atriums. Underneath are
some extensions for the liturgical colors.
This bookshelf is the
start of our Kingdom Parables shelf. We have presented the Mustard
Seed, the Leaven, and the Seed of Grain, as well as synthesizing
them. Eventually the big sets will go into the Level I atrium, and
the small reminders will stay in the Level II. We haven’t found final
places for everything yet, so no labels are put away. However, all
the children can read, so it isn’t a big issue for restoring the work in the
proper place.
Our liturgical colors
corner contains the chasubles, which were made by a co-worker of one
of our catechists. She used PVC for the stands, with fuzzy Velcro on
the top, to hold the chasubles in place. There is a basket which
holds some stoles, and also the liturgical colors cards. The
Liturgical calendar puzzle doesn’t belong here, but I put it here
for the pictures.
On the opposite wall,
close to the divider, is our bookshelf. We also have a small
fountain for background music.
Outside the doorway to
both atriums is a small Holy Water Stoup with a mirror for the
children to practice the sign of the cross.
